The electric pickup truck market is alive and well, and CNBC offers insights into the manufacturers, available products, and cost. The pickup truck leaders are Tesla, GM, Rivian, and Ford, and 58,000 vehicles were sold in the first six months of the year. CALSTART member Stellantis is making a large investment in three Michigan facilities, and one of them will produce their first battery-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV light-duty truck, expected to be available later this year.

Congratulations to Workhorse for their recent FedEx order of 15 W56 step vans. The van design is for last-mile delivery, making it a good stop-and-go delivery option in urban areas.

Bollinger Motors, subsidiary of Mullen Automotive, has received California Air Resources Board (CARB) certification for its B4 all-electric, Class 4 low-cab truck. Certification brings other benefits including the ability for customers to take advantage of various state incentives.

The University of Southern California Sol Price School of Public Policy has a new report that offers recommendations for how to make the transition to zero-emission trucks. Included in the report is information on charging infrastructure, incentives, and truck technology.

It is a good week for Greenlane, having been awarded a $15 million grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) to develop truck charging for the City of Colton, California. The site will have more than 60 chargers for heavy-, medium-, and light-duty zero-emission vehicles.

Wireless inductive charging keeps evolving, and Ford is looking at charging while driving. The method is to align the inductive charging coils mounted on an electric vehicle (EV) with ones embedded in the road surface. Whether or not the system will be deployed at scale is uncertain.

If you are a Ford EV owner, check out the new Southern California Edison (SCE) opportunity to be paid to support the electricity grid. California Power Response is Ford’s part of the SCE Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP), which incentivizes customers to pause their EV charging during peak demand. Instructions are available here.

Climate Week NYC is the place to be for those interested in accelerating market growth for electric trucks. CALSTART and Smart Freight Centre are organizing an event, and Amazon, PepsiCo, IKEA, Microsoft, and other shippers, fleets, and infrastructure providers will be attending. CALSTART’s Vice President Jasna Tomic and Program Manager Michael Joseph can provide more details. You can join the session, Road to Action - Towards Accelerated Truck Electrification, the morning of September 25. Register here.
