Electric truck OEM Windrose Technology and charging provider Terawatt Infrastructure have partnered together to demonstrate the high-power charging capabilities of their respective technologies. The two CALSTART members recently completed a series of interoperability tests at Terawatt’s flagship charging site in Rancho Dominguez, California, demonstrating Windrose’s dual-input charging capability. They successfully utilized two 350kW chargers simultaneously, proving the effectiveness of its dual gun charging system. Beyond testing demonstrations, Windrose and Terawatt are also working on deeper software integration, connecting Windrose vehicles with Terawatt site and energy management platforms. Planning is underway for local customer deployments at Terawatt’s charging hubs in SoCal and future long-haul deployments at sites planned along Terawatt’s I-10 corridor, connecting Los Angeles and El Paso. Testing and pilot programs are scheduled throughout the summer with an anticipated increase in deployments later this year.
According to a new report released by The Information, Amazon has built a new facility to start testing humanoid robots as package delivery workers. The indoor park, built at one of Amazon’s San Francisco offices, reportedly contains a Rivian van for training humanoid robots to “hitch a ride in the back of Amazon’s electric Rivian vans and spring out to deliver packages.” While Amazon is already using a variety of autonomous robots in its warehouse operations, they are launching a new AI team that will help develop systems to enable robots to run in the wild. With Amazon’s acquisition of robotaxi company Zoox in 2020, it’s possible the full automation of package delivery is on the horizon.
A few weeks ago, NewsNotes featured a story of a RIZON e16M deployed on Vancouver Island, and two more trucks have joined the region. Plett Truck Repair has recently integrated two RIZON e18L electric trucks into service around British Columbia. The medium-duty trucks, both fitted with box bodies, will be used in Plett’s customer service operations. RIZON’s trucks are designed to meet the rising demand for sustainable fleet solutions and qualify for significant federal and provincial incentives. Canada’s Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles program provides approximately $75,000 per vehicle at the point of sale, with additional provincial incentives up to $75,000 in British Columbia.
