The California Air Resources Board (CARB) reports a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions of 2.4 percent in 2022 compared with 2021. More than half of the reductions came from the transportation sector, attributable to "more electric vehicles (EVs) and less gasoline."

Charging for the growing population of EV drivers will become more available thanks to funding from the White House. In partnership with investment firm Monroe Capital, a new billion-dollar initiative will support small and medium-sized companies with EV supply-chain challenges. The investment focus will be on "made in America by American manufacturers and auto workers."

More fleet adoption of EVs is expected to grow over the next five years according to a survey conducted by Frost & Sullivan. Half of 500 organizations interviewed said they are leaning in that direction, recognizing that the top challenges today are fuel costs, operational expenses, and profit margins. And, as if on cue, Amazon’s Kara Hurst spoke in New York City this week as part of Climate Week/UN General Assembly. She talked about the company decarbonizing their fleet, including the commitment to buy 100,000 electric delivery vans and have them on the road by 2030.

Mullen and Papé Kenworth are doing business together. Mullen has entered a sales and service agreement to add full-service dealer Papé Kenworth to its EV network. Access to deep knowledge of the commercial truck market, combined with their shared commitment to the adoption of commercial EVs, drove the partnership. REE Automotive and Roush Industries have entered a partnership as well. REE, an Israeli company, has announced plans to begin U.S. production of its P7 electric trucks. REE, in partnership with Roush, will launch production in the Detroit-area in the last quarter of this year.

Siemens has plans to grow its EV charging business. Siemens eMobility recently acquired DC fast-charging specialist Heliox with a goal of extending their market reach in Europe and North America. Partnerships are forming all over, and Terawatt Infrastructure is providing their services to a shipper-carrier coalition focused on the acceleration of heavy-duty EV deployment. The coalition is part of the Netherlands-based Smart Freight Centre. The coalition will be testing long-haul, heavy-duty EV operations between Los Angeles, California, and El Paso, Texas.
