We hope this message finds you safe and well. Due to the ongling wildfires in the Los Angeles area, we have made the decision to postpone our 2025 Member Symposium, originally scheduled for January 13-14. The safety and well-being of our attendees, staff, and partners remain our highest priority.
We are actively working to confirm a new date and will share updated details as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding and are grateful for your continued support.
Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the wildfires. We look forward to gathering with you under safer conditions.
Stay Safe,
The CALSTART TEAM

Good news for anyone looking to buy an EV this year: customers can now apply the $7,500 EV tax credit to vehicles from Hyundai Motor Group, including Kia and Gensis models. The manufacturing giant plans to keep growing in the US market, with 5 vehicles now eligible for the $7,500 credit. Hyundai is also offering a free NACS adapter for those leasing or purchasing a new EV. For additional info, check out this deep dive on how the federal tax credit works and which vehicles are eligible.
On the flipside of Hyundai’s success, Tesla’s EV sales are down for the first time in over a decade. Competition from legacy automakers like BYD are closing the gap as consumers have more options to choose from: there are now 75 models of EVs available for purchase in the US. BYD reported a 41% increase in EV sales in 2024 compared to 2023, selling 1.76 million vehicles. Also reporting strong sales is Ford, with over 30,000 EV sales in the last quarter of 2024 marking a new high for the company.
Fleet management software provider WEX recently announced a partnership with Qmerit to install EV chargers at the homes of fleet drivers. Qmerit will provide EV charging installation while WEX facilitates the payment and reimbursement process for fleet drivers and managers. This at-home approach can help fleets take advantage of more cost-effective EV charging with residential electricity rates.
Those interested in learning more about fuel and technology solutions in the long-haul industry will want to check out NACFE’s Run on Less Messy Middle Bootcamp, with 13 sessions running February to July. This year’s focus on the “messy middle” aims to bring clarity to the largest emitting market segment. Three sessions will focus on diesel and natural gas vehicles, three on battery electric vehicles, and three on hydrogen.
Join us in Sacramento for the California Summit, where the brightest minds and most influential leaders in the transportation and clean energy sectors will come together to shape the future. Industry leaders, state policymakers, advocates, and CALSTART members will explore innovative strategies to decarbonize and transform the transportation sector. Together, we will celebrate our achievements, confront shared challenges, and accelerate the solutions needed to drive real progress. Be part of this powerful movement to shape a cleaner, more sustainable California for generations to come. Let’s drive change—today, for tomorrow.
