Exciting news! You can now listen to our weekly NewsNotes in an audio format titled NewZE (pronounced Newsy). We know your time is valuable, so we're making it easier than ever to stay informed while on the go. Whether you're commuting or simply prefer listening over reading, this new format keeps you connected and up to date. This week's in-depth discussion features John Walsh from EO Charging in conversation with Jared Schnader, Vice President of Membership Services at CALSTART. Enjoy!

John Boesel, President and CEO of CALSTART was featured in an article by The New York Times on industry predictions under the incoming administration. The author cites falling battery prices and the considerable investments across automakers as indications that a republican administration might slow, but not stop, the EV industry. “We’re probably not moving fast enough right now,” said John Boesel, president of Calstart, a nonprofit group supported by businesses and governments that promotes clean transportation. “So any efforts to delay or slow things down will have negative impact for decades, if not centuries, to come.”

As the Biden-Harris administration comes to a close, $635M was just announced to help build out EV charging stations. These grants are from 2021’s $2.5 billion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aiding one of the administration’s key goals to build 500,000 public EV chargers by 2030. The funding will support 49 individual projects across 27 states, four federally recognized tribes, and the District of Columbia.

Charging-as-a-service provider EO Charging was recently named an approved partner for Shell’s fleet customers following their decision to exit the US fleet software market. EO offers full fleet electrification solutions for car, van, bus, and truck fleets, and these integrated solutions across hardware, software, and support services guarantee fleets experience an uptime rate exceeding 99.5%.

Dutch automaker Stellantis was one of the few OEMs to meet the UK’s ZEV sales target last year, set at 22% of total car sales and 10% of total van sales. With nearly 40,000 electric cars and nearly 8,000 vans sold in 2024, Stellantis met the UK’s ZEV mandate without even other methods of compliance like credits. The automaker saw a 59% increase in car sales from 2023 and was the UK’s best-selling electric van manufacturer in 2024, remaining committed to making their EVs as attainable as possible as the industry continues to grow.

New CALSTART member Harbinger Motors has raised $100M to help support their endeavor of producing medium-duty EV cargo trucks. Based in Garden Grove, CA, Harbinger will use the venture capital funding to boost production capacity at its Knott Avenue plant to fulfill its recent orders, as well as support their 2025 sales and operations targets. If you’d like to connect with Harbinger, let us know!
