CALSTART members Electreon and Xos, Inc. are collaborating on wireless charging for commercial fleets in Michigan. Electreon’s wireless charging system will be integrated into an Xos step van. A UPS facility in Detroit will also receive new installations of stationary wireless chargers, which will give them cable-free overnight charging. The University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) is also partnering with Electreon and CALSTART to bring wireless charging to the campus. When completed, an electric bus can drive down the road where chargers embedded under the asphalt will wirelessly charge it. UCLA also plans to convert its whole fleet of buses to electric.
Stellantis, whose North American headquarters are in Auburn Hill, MI, has unveiled its STLA Frame platform, which gets 690 miles of range. The configurable platform supports vehicles with electric, hybrid, gas, hydrogen, and EREV powertrains. Bollinger Motors is another Michigan company that will take advantage of California’s Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). The Bollinger B4 Chassis Cab is a new electric Class 4 commercial truck.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has updated the state’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) to require oil companies to either reduce emissions during production or to buy credits to lower their emissions. The update will expand incentives for medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) zero-emission vehicle infrastructure projects and redirect the Clean Fuel Reward Program to projects that support MHD vehicles. Commercial vehicle infrastructure providers like WattEV, Terawatt, and Prologis will be among those who benefit.
Charging infrastructure provider Voltera owns and operates charging facilities for zero-emission vehicle fleets in the U.S. The company raised $50 million in backing from a unit of German export finance bank KfW. They currently have three facilities operating with eight more planned to open in 2025.
The Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES) would like to hear from fuel cell electric truck and bus manufacturers, truck fleet operators, transit agencies, and hydrogen station developers, as well as individuals and organizations familiar with these businesses or with technology transition strategies in general. By participating in this RFI, you will play a pivotal role in informing ARCHES’ development of its Heavy-Duty Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Market Development Strategy for California. Participate by reading the RFI and replying by 5:00 p.m. PT on November 27, 2024.
