The California Air Resources Board has set new fuel carbon intensity targets that will strengthen their Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and provide more incentives for electric vehicle (EV) charging ports. The new targets are expected to drive zero-emission technology adoption, especially in the medium- and heavy-duty space. The decision will also support transit agencies by generating credits for the fuel they use for zero-emission service.

General Motors (GM) has announced their newest all-electric vehicle, and this EV is a Cadillac SUV called Vistiq. The estimated range is 300 miles, and when it’s available early next year, the expected starting price is $78,790. It will be sold in the U.S. and Canada.

Infineon Technologies is a German semiconductor manufacturer that will supply Stellantis with chips for its next generation of EVs. The two companies have been working on the agreement since the end of 2022. In a press release, the partners said they aim to "define a scalable and intelligent power supply architecture for the next generation of software-defined vehicles from Stellantis."

Mullen Automotive has officially launched its Class 1 EV cargo van, which is now available to rent on Turo (the world’s largest vehicle sharing marketplace) in Jacksonville, FL, with further expansion expected in Baltimore, MD. Mullen’s CEO David Michery observed, “This is a gateway opportunity for businesses of all sizes to experience the performance and benefits of Mullen’s Class 1 EV cargo van.” Bollinger Motors, a majority-owned company of Mullen Automotive, is westward bound as they delivered their first Class 4 B4 electric trucks to TEC Equipment dealerships on the West Coast. Headquartered in Portland, OR, TEC has more than 30 locations across eight states.

Workhorse continues to secure orders for its W56 electric step vans. The newest order is for seven W56 electric trucks for parcel delivery. Delivery for all the vehicles is expected by the end of the year. Recently, the company has been busy providing demonstrations at several parcel delivery terminal depots throughout California.

DHL and Diageo North America, a premium drinks company, will operate two Nikola hydrogen fuel cell tractors out of Plainfield, IL. The two trucks are the first Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) operated day-to-day in the state. Replacing two diesel trucks with the FCEVs is expected to reduce 80% carbon emissions in a year.

Electromaps is out with a list of five technologies that promise to “revolutionize” the EV market by 2030. The five technologies include the lithium-sulfur battery, induction charging, autonomous vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells as an alternative to EVs, and the Hyperloop. The article provides a deeper dive into each one.

The Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES) would like to hear from fuel cell electric truck and bus manufacturers, truck fleet operators, transit agencies, and hydrogen station developers, as well as individuals and organizations familiar with these businesses or with technology transition strategies in general. By participating in this RFI, you will play a pivotal role in informing ARCHES’ development of its Heavy-Duty Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Market Development Strategy for California. Participate by reading the RFI and replying by 5:00 p.m. PT on November 27, 2024.
