Kudos to Rob Delcore, General Manager of Symbio North America for winning a $2 million award from the California Energy Commission (CEC). Symbio will develop a hydrogen fuel cell truck for regional haul trucking. Michelin, too, is part of the award and they will provide low-rolling resistance tires. Faurecia is also part of the team, and they will provide the hydrogen storage systems.

New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey are joining dozens of companies and universities to form a regional clean hydrogen hub consortium. New York is leading the charge which CALSTART is part of. Participating members of CALSTART include BAE Systems, Cummins, and National Grid.

Walmart is also making a commitment to hydrogen having announced that they will run forklifts on green hydrogen as part of their partnership with Plug Power. Walmart will use hydrogen to fuel its up to 9,500 lifts operating across its network of facilities.

Penske Truck Leasing is the latest major customer for Ford’s E-Transit electric cargo van after Walmart. The company has ordered 750-E Transits to use for its rental and leasing fleet. Initially the vans will operate in Southern California. Frito-Lay is focusing on Ford E-Transit trucks, too, as they debut a pilot for an upcoming electric fleet in Carrollton, TX. The first truck has arrived with forty arriving this summer.

One of the leading early adopter transit agencies is Canton, Ohio’s Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) and CEO Kirt Conrad has added a ChargePoint Level 2 EV charging station at their Belden Village Transit Center. They are providing the service to the EV-driving public at no cost.

Canary Media focuses on the hottest EVs at the New York Auto Show particularly the two-wheeled kind. The show included a Micro Mobility Expo with booths showing electric bikes and scooters. Electric scooter and bike company Bird has a new pilot program in New York City that provides motorized attachments for wheelchair users. Technicians collaborate with participants on installation, speed settings and controls before they take off for a test ride.

Ukraine has been an early leader in the EV space and AVERE Ukraine, the Ukrainian arm of Europe’s largest EV Association, is hosting a webinar saying the war is shining a spotlight on the importance of EVs. The topics are wide ranging including how to establish infrastructure resiliency; how is their mobility working in current conditions; and what is happening with delivery, public transport, and logistics. The webinar takes place next Tuesday, April 26 and tickets are available here.
