Six states will be the recipients of a $50 million round of funding from the U.S. Department of Energy. The funds are to support manufacturing conversions for the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Beneficiaries of the funding include Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois.  

Yesterday the Biden administration announced an additional $521 million in grants to 29 states to add even more charging stations. According to the Biden administration, there are currently 192,000 publicly available charging ports and about 1,000 new public chargers being added weekly.  


Towing vehicles at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) are expected to become all-electric by the middle of next year. Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) is the first cargo handler to introduce electric cargo towing vehicles. WFS serves more than 50 airlines at AMS, and their operation includes four warehouses.  

Isuzu’s anticipated new electric cab and chassis is in production. The medium-duty truck has built-in versatility that allows for it to be upfitted as a box van for middle- and final-mile deliveries, a dump body for landscaping, or a sweeper or garbage truck. Isuzu has a nationwide network of General Motors (GM) dealers that supports them.  


Mullen Automotive is a California-based company that just got some great news. Volt Mobility, a leading UAE-based commercial leasing company has signed a $210 million purchase agreement for 3,000 EVs over the next 16 months. Volt has impressive clients like UPS, DHL, and FedEx. Volvo Trucks is another major manufacturer that just got an order for 300 electric trucks from logistics firm DSV. The two companies have signed an agreement for the electric heavy trucks, which will be delivered between 2024 and 2026.  

A few weeks away, on September 16, Bollinger Motors will begin production of their B4 Chassis Cab with the first deliveries expected in October of this year. The all-electric truck will be produced in partnership with Roush Industries, which offers substantial experience in e-mobility and manufacturing. The vehicle is eligible for a $40,000 tax credit per vehicle.  

So many trucks and so many more coming. CALSTART’s latest report looks at the 11 states that have adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) and the Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) rules to date, projecting the impact that compliance will have on ZET deployments. The results show that by 2030, at least 461,000 ZETs will need to be deployed in these 11 states, mainly in the pickup truck, straight truck, and cargo van segments.
