The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has announced $1.94 million in competitive grant funding. FTA’s Enhancing Mobility Innovation program will support research projects in two categories: 1) innovations focused on new service delivery models, creative financing, novel partnerships, and integrated payment solutions, and 2) software solutions to find ways to improve demand-response public transportation services.

CALSTART member GenCell will be at the Sacramento-based EVOX Expo at the California Mobility Center on Monday, August 5. Among the topics to be covered is a session on hurdles to DC fast charging. There’s no cost to attend, and you can register here.

Mullen, an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has announced its subsidiary, Bollinger Motors, will sell five all-electric Class 4 Bollinger B4 commercial trucks to Spencer Manufacturing. Bollinger received $825,000 for the vehicles, which will be used for fire rescue. Pitt Ohio is expanding their EV fleet as well with four Mack MD electric trucks. With this order, the Pennsylvania-based transport and logistics company has a battery-electric fleet of 10 vehicles.

Volvo’s electric trucks have clocked over 49 million miles since 2019, the equivalent of 2,000 laps around the world. Volvo Trucks' global deliveries of electric trucks increased by 256% to 1,977 Class 8 trucks in 2023.

Nikola is also reporting better-than-expected deliveries of their hydrogen-powered trucks, citing rapidly increased demand for fuel cell trucks. In May, the company said it expected to close out the year with a total of 300–350 deliveries. During the first half of the year, Nikola made 112 deliveries, and they have added Walmart Canada as a new customer.

And now, please meet Kelly Ratchinsky, the technical project manager for hydrogen infrastructure at CALSTART. Heavy Duty Trucking interviewed her to learn more about her view of the market and the future for hydrogen infrastructure and fueling stations.
